Since the conception of this site, I wanted to be able to share homes and creative spaces, such as an artist’s studio or workshop.
My ideas are finally coming to fruition and I’m pleased to be sharing my first studio tour!
Creative Brisbane: Artist Sophie Munns’ studio
Sophie Munns is a Brisbane based artist who has spent many years of her life dedicated to creating artwork inspired by the humble seed.
At her Chermside studio, in the northern suburbs of Brisbane, she creates beautiful pieces, led by her fascination and appreciation of the beauty that is all around us, in nature.
It’s something we often take for granted, yet the simple seed is the beginning of so many amazing things and this is explored by Sophie through her artwork.

I was totally in love with the blue vibe going on in the studio from Sophie’s work! Gorgeous tones and shades of blue were popping out to me all over the bright, sun lit studio and gallery space!

Over the past few years, Sophie has been Artist-in-Residence at many places including the Brisbane and Cairns Botanic Gardens, Kew Gardens in the UK and most recently at the ‘Plantbank’ research facility at the Australian Botanic Gardens. These residencies allow a deep immersion into her work and provide excellent opportunities to collaborate on many different projects.
Some of her more recent work is the ‘Biodiversity conversation plate series’ created by Sophie this year. She explains the purpose of this series;
Their value as an artwork is part a celebration… yet it also serves as a reminder that daily choices… what we put on our plates… what we bring to the table and discuss… has the power to make or break a world in precarious tension between nature and human life.
